We could not have stayed in New Zealand; by flying there, we had lost one day and, had we chosen to stay, we would be forever older by one day. We left Los Angeles on a Saturday night and, after a flight of "only" 12 hours, we arrived in Auckland on a Monday morning.
Auckland is a town made for us, full of high places to look down from. Even our hotel room had a grand view of the harbor. The picture with the flag was shot on a ferry and shows the highest tower of the Southern hemisphere which we climbed (well, conquered with the help of an elevator) on our very first day.
The New Zealanders don't make even the most dangerous high places unaccessible to the public, they understand if a person craves some adventure. Would you like to find out what it is like to fall from the sky tower? For a price, you can, we throw you out with a bungee cord. Would you like to climb on the very top of the tower, the needle, where there is no balustrade? It will cost you, but you can.
How fortunate that lesser heroes also have their chance for a thrill. Standing upon a glass floor several hundred meters high is quite a challenge for some.
